North Coast Vision Optometry

Brett is an optician with a passion for people and the glasses that shape their lives. His goal is to make you a pair of glasses that you want to wear everyday. He was born in a small town near Dallas, Texas and moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1989. Brett attended Cabrillo College in Aptos where he double majored in Liberal Arts and Political Science. As a member of the Student Senate at Cabrillo, he created the Campus Sustainability Committee which promotes socially responsible investing, renewable energy, and green building. Brett’s future goals include finishing his education at UCSC, with a major in Politics. Afterwards, he plans on forming a socially responsible hedge fund to invest in and promote green industries and solutions. His hobbies are improvising, swimming, basketball, and performing karaoke.

Daniel is originally from Ventura County in Southern California but is now currently a student at the University of California in beautiful Santa Cruz. He is pursuing a degree in Neuroscience and Behavior with future goals to attend medical school. Daniel travels to Honduras each year through Global Medical Brigades, a program which he established at UC Santa Cruz where students and medical professionals run mobile-clinics to give medical care and dental relief to the under-served people. Some of his hobbies include hiking, biking around Santa Cruz, camping in the great outdoors, dancing, cooking, and listening to music.

Frankie has made Santa Cruz his home for six years. He feels a deep connection to the land here and its inhabitants. His commitment to building a sense of community, with respect for the environment, led him to North Coast Vision. Frankie values the opportunity to help people choose eyewear that is comfortable and beautiful. The importance of visual health is something he values. In his spare time, Frankie enjoys spending time with his daughter, dancing with friends, and backpacking in the woods.

Kelly began her career in the optical industry in 2002 working for a local and successful optical laboratory. In less than a year, she took her knowledge and experience with her accepting employment as an optician working for a well known optometry practice in downtown Santa Cruz. Kelly thrives working with the public. She enjoys assisting patients in choosing the best frames and lenses for their look, lifestyle, and needs utilizing creativity with experience. She has lived in Santa Cruz Co. since 1981 and has worked as an optician since 2003. Kelly’s free time is spent enjoying various outdoor sporting activities, riding mountain bikes and dirt bikes, jogging along West Cliff and going to the beach. Her greatest accomplishment has been raising her two beautiful children.

Dr. Kim is also a graduate of UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. Both she and her husband have worked for VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). They were able to travel to Nicaragua and Belize where they provided eye exams and glasses for others. In her spare time, Dr. Kim enjoys hiking, camping, rock climbing, yoga, and simply being in Santa Cruz.

Dr. Fredericks came to optometry as a second career. Previously, he attended graduate school and pursued a career in ecology. The same values that led him to initially choose ecology have influenced the direction and design of the office. Subsequently, he graduated from UC Berkeley School of Optometry. While there, he found a career that allowed him to help others, while incorporating the ethics that originally attracted him to ecological studies. Also, at Berkeley, he was lucky enough to meet his lovely wife and business partner.
